New Aziz Sancarlar elected at Uşak University

Under the leadership of Nobel Prize-winning scientist Aziz Sancar, the fifth of the STEM camps for girls started to be held at Uşak University.

   The panel named “Orienting Girls to STEM Education and Its Effects on Sustainable Development” was held in Mustafa Kemal Pasha Amphitheater.

   Uşak Deputy Governor Halil İbrahim Ertekin, Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Said Çelik, Vice Rectors Prof. Dr. Dear Dalkiran, Prof. Dr. Cengiz Soykan, Prof. Dr. Osman Nafiz Kaya, Uşak National Education Director Bülent Şahin, STEM Project Coordinator Gökhan Coşkun, students and parents attended.

   Speaking at the program, Uşak National Education Director Bülent Şahin mentioned that the STEM Project is very important in terms of raising awareness among students.

Beginning his speech by expressing his pride in Aziz Sancar, Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Çelik emphasized the importance of nationalization of education and stated that national education, which gained importance during the reign of Sultan Abdülhamit, showed great progress especially in recent years.

Rector Çelik said: "Aziz Sancar has made us all proud as the son of this nation, especially in these days when treason gangs and various groups have made a profit by denouncing, criticizing and complaining about our country." Stating that Aziz Sancar is an important role model for our nation, Çelik said; “This success of Aziz Sancar is a breaking point. Because our intellectuals have always thought that success will be achieved by criticizing their own culture and systems, and they have tried to stand out with their admiration for Europe. Therefore, they have broken the self-confidence of our nation. Aziz Sancar has protected his civilization and culture, and with his success, he has taken a very important step towards re-establishing the self-confidence of our nation and especially of our children.”

   Rector Çelik, who underlined that Aziz Sancar, who made a very important contribution to world science with his success in the field of cancer research, is appreciated not only in the field of science but also in the human sense, said: "The fact that the STEM Project covers girls and is a project that includes Syrian children is an indication of how rich the geography of Aziz Hodja's heart is."

   Expressing his satisfaction with the STEM Project being carried out at Uşak University, Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. Sait Çelik concluded his speech by stating that the doors of the University are always open to such scientific events.

   Uşak Deputy Governor Halil İbrahim Ertekin, who started his speech by thanking Aziz Sancar and his team for carrying out the project in Uşak, stating that the STEM Project is a meaningful project in every respect, stated that Aziz Sancar's becoming one of the most important scientists of the world as an Anatolian child born in Mardin is a complete success story and that Aziz Sancar should set an example for all young people.

Emphasizing that children with an increased interest in technology will create value for our country by producing projects if numerical courses such as mathematics and science are popular from a young age, Ertekin stated that if science and technology are produced, our country will achieve its goals faster by exhibiting significant successes.

   Expressing that the STEM Project's inclusion of girls in particular makes the project even more meaningful, Ertekin said, “Especially our women have more responsibility. Our women, whose paths have been opened with these projects, will be more beneficial to our country, society and humanity.

   Project coordinator Gökhan Coşkun Prof. In the opening speech of the panel, which Aziz Sancar gave his greetings, he pointed out that there are approximately 4000 Turkish scientists in America, and stated that Aziz Hodja is a very important scientist who contributes to world science as the child of a humble family that came out of these lands.

   Stating that they intend to pay their debt of loyalty to this nation by transferring the experiences they have gained abroad with the STEM Project to the children of their hometown, Coşkun added that their projects will continue to train new Aziz Sancars.

   The next day of the panel, 100 6th grade female students studying in Uşak held the STEM camp workshop. The students were divided into 10 groups of 10 and tried to make parachutes with the materials given to them. Later, the groups that flew their parachutes from a certain height completed their work. After the work, lots were drawn for gifts. As a result of the lottery, 10 people won the right to participate in the science center camp in Konya, and tablets were given to 10 students who were named in the lottery.


National Education Director Bülent Şahin won the right to attend the camp to be held in Seoul, South Korea as a result of the draw, while Uşak University Rector Prof. Dr. The student, whose name was drawn in the lottery drawn by Sait Çelik, will be sent to the camp to be held in Silicon Valley in the United States to represent Uşak.

   The ceremony ended with the drawing of lots and the presentation of gifts.
